So I recieved some exviting news today from the Alberta Bicycle Association, apparently I have been chosen as one of their male athletes of the year! This was a little surprising for me to be honest, I didn't even know that the ABA gave out this award before I got the notification. What's even funnier is that I've never actually been on Team Alberta or been the Provincial Champion. It feels great to get some recognition from the province though. I feel like I have made some huge improvements this past year and figured that only my coaches and some friends had noticed, so this really blindsided me haha.
What's really crazy to me is that Kelsey Mitchell was the winner of the female cyclist of the year category. In case you've been living under a rock and don't know, Kelsey won a gold medal in the sprint at the Tokyo Olympics. Obviously I haven't achieved anything close to that level this year, but even having my name close to hers makes me feel like I'm actually in the big leagues. It's also cool to me that two of the three cyclists highlighted by the ABA were from track cycling. The other male cyclist chosen was from BMX, which is huge in Alberta.

In summary, I think that me getting picked as one of the top Alberta cyclists of 2020 could be signalling an increase in the popularity of track cycling in Canada. Obviously this is very good for me because I love track cycling and want to see it become a mainstream sport. That and all of this positive attention is going straight to my head please help.
